Meet the Team
Alex (The Boss)
CEO and Trustee
In 2012 I was involved in a car accident which left me wheelchair bound. I soon came to realise the lack of specialised advice and support available to people with disabilities. Shortly after my accident I started to volunteer for a charity who offered a disability helpline. Over the next four years I gained valuable knowledge and experience through the charity. Although I enjoyed my time working with the charity I felt restricted in the level of support that I was able to offer. I wanted to offer the disabled clients and their carers/relatives an ongoing and personalised support plan which wasn't viable with the previous charity. This is why I decided to set up my own charity (Disability Support Project) and offer the services I believe disabled people are desperately in need of.
I am a mother to 3 children and married to the CEO of the charity. After Alex's accident I became his full- time carer. I have learnt a lot about disability on a personal level. My youngest child was born with a deformity to her feet and have experienced first hand the ups and downs of having a child with a disability and managing her treatment and surgery.
I have supported the charity from day one and have offered some of my time each day to help with the administration side of the charity, as well as monitoring the phone calls. We all work really well as a team and couldn't ask for a nicer DSP family.
